Spain: CNI and police warned of possible entry into Ceuta one day before the crossing

Euronews Portugal9 September 2026 at 18:22

The National Intelligence Centre (CNI) of Spain and the Spanish police warned of the possibility of entry into Ceuta one day before the swim crossing that occurred to the autonomous city. The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, criticized this morning on TVE the CNI for not having prevented that crossing "at all".

According to the available information, the CNI warned its Moroccan counterparts about the situation. The police, for their part, warned the commands in Ceuta and Melilla about the imminent risk.

Despite these prior warnings, Sánchez considered that the response from the Spanish intelligence service was not sufficient to avoid the incident involving the swim crossing to Ceuta. The Prime Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the CNI's performance regarding the prevention of this type of situation in the autonomous city.
