Farmers from Serpa consider the 10 cents per liter fuel support announced by the Government insufficient. The Farmers Association of the district of Beja classifies this measure as an inadequate response to the crisis affecting the sector.
The association admits that farmers are prepared to intensify forms of protest if structural responses addressing their needs are not presented. The agricultural sector faces growing difficulties, particularly regarding production costs.
The farmers from Serpa thus join a broader movement of protest by the agricultural sector in Portugal, which has been demanding concrete measures to address the increase in operational costs. The fuel situation is pointed out as one of the main problems affecting the profitability of agricultural holdings in the region.
