Government decides on transport, firefighters and IPSS support next week

Diário de Coimbra9 September 2026 at 17:30

The prime minister announced that the Council of Ministers held in Bragança decided on support for the transport, firefighters and IPSS sectors, with only the final formalization of these measures remaining for next week.

The measures cover three distinct areas: public transport, the firefighting sector and the Private Institutions of Social Solidarity, which play an important role in social services in Portugal.

The decision was made during a Council of Ministers meeting that took place in Bragança, the city that hosted this session of the government.

The announcement by the prime minister indicates that the measures are essentially defined, only awaiting their formal approval next week to come into effect.

Alberto Gonçalves analyses the apparent contradiction of comedians and artists who refused to participate in a festival with Jerry Seinfeld, criticizing him for alleged controversial positions, but who simultaneously attended editions of the "Avante!" festival, organized by the Portuguese Communist Party, arguing that this event celebrates real genocides since 1931. The commentator highlights what he considers to be selective hypocrisy of these artists in their condemnation of certain figures while participating in an event associated with Stalinist regimes responsible for millions of deaths.
