Meningitis vaccine expanded for children from 6 weeks of age

The Ministry of Health expanded the indication of the meningitis vaccine for children from 6 weeks of age. Previously, the age range for the vaccine administration was more restricted.

The vaccine is indicated for the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease. The disease is caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis, specifically by serogroups A, C, W, and Y.

The expansion of the age range aims to increase vaccination coverage and protect children against meningococcal meningitis from the first months of life, a period in which they are most vulnerable to the disease.
