Chapadão: buses are hijacked and routes face detours during police operation

extra9 September 2026 at 15:55

The 41st BPM from Irajá carried out on Wednesday a police operation in the Complexo do Chapadão, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. During the action, drug traffickers hijacked four buses and used them to create barricades on the region's roads. The vehicles were used to block Estrada Rio do Pau and Rua Alcobaça, attempting to hinder the advancement of the police operation.

According to information from Rio Ônibus, the roads were cleared around 10:20 AM. However, even after the clearance, twelve bus routes continued operating with detours in their itineraries because of the action.

The affected lines included routes that went from Pavuna to destinations such as Passeio, Sulacap, Terminal Deodoro, Méier, Madureira and BRT Sulacap, covering both conventional lines and SR and SV lines. The operation caused significant impact on public transportation in the region for several hours.

The article also briefly mentions two other news items from the same outlet: the construction of a medieval castle in Recreio that was attracting the attention of people passing through the area, and the arrest of a woman at Rio International Airport who was transporting three kilograms of cocaine in cans destined for Ethiopia.
