Marc Overmars, former Dutch international, took a "drastic decision" regarding his future in professional football. The former player, who was director of football at Ajax, has been away from football for some time now.

The former footballer has been suffering from various health problems since the end of his career. In 2022, Overmars suffered a stroke that left lasting effects, significantly affecting his quality of life.

This is not the first time Overmars has faced difficulties off the pitch. Years before, the Dutchman had been involved in controversies related to sending inappropriate messages to colleagues, which led to his departure from Ajax.

The decision now comes in a context of ongoing struggle against the consequences of the stroke, which continue to affect the former European champion.
