The Estoril Circuit hosted this weekend the Estoril III, the penultimate round of the National Speed Championship, where young rider Simão Viegas, from the Union of Freguesias of Malveira and Alcainça, in the municipality of Mafra, achieved two impressive victories. The round was marked by initial difficulties, including rain, mud, and a crash in the first timed session, in addition to mechanical problems that almost took him out of the competition.

Saturday morning started with rain and mud at 09:00, delaying the track entry. A crash in the first timed session complicated the jornada, but thanks to the help of fellow riders' parents Ricardo and Ângelo, it was possible to recover the bike quickly. In the second timed session, new mechanical failures appeared, but despite losing almost the entire session, Simão Viegas managed to secure the pole position.

In the first race, the rider imposed a strong pace even with temperatures of 40°C ambient and over 50°C on the asphalt, finishing with a 20-second advantage. On Sunday, in the Warm Up, he consecutively beat his track record and entered the second race determined, again imposing a superior pace compared to the previous day and finishing with a 40-second victory margin.

With these results, Simão Viegas stood out as the best among the CNV Jr. pack, always staying ahead of Carolina Azevedo, his main rival, and increasing his championship advantage by another 40 points. A student at the EB 2,3 School of Malveira, the pilot from Mafra is getting closer and closer to the title, with only one weekend remaining for the end of the competition.
