The association Aixeca el cap was founded in Sabadell in March 2023 with the aim of promoting responsible and regulated use of screens, especially among children and adolescents. The organization was born out of the concern of families and education and health professionals regarding the use of mobile phones and digital devices. Thanks to the pressure from this association and other groups like Adolescència lliure de mòbils, a ban on mobile phones in compulsory education was achieved last school year.
On Tuesday, the latest data from the PISA report was published, warning of a worldwide problem of reading comprehension among students. The report indicates that students have difficulties with texts of more than 400 words. These results have reopened the debate on the use of screens in classrooms.
Faced with this data, the association Aixeca el cap again asked the education department to immediately remove screens from primary school classes. The organization also proposes that the use of digital devices in secondary education be permitted only in a very limited manner.
