Bizarre web trend makes men shave their eyelashes to "look more masculine"

A bizarre trend is spreading across social media, in which men shave their eyelashes with the aim of looking "more masculine". A TikTok video, which went viral with over 36 million views, shows a man shaving his eyelashes under the claim that they are feminine. The man was unaware of the vital function that eyelashes play for health.

According to Dr. Paramdeep Bilkhu, consulted by the LADBible website, eyelashes play several essential functions in maintaining healthy eyes. They help prevent dirt, debris, dead skin cells and sweat from entering the eyes, maintaining comfort and reducing the risk of infections. Additionally, eyelashes also help reduce the exposure of the eye surface to harmful UV radiation.

Beyond the loss of these benefits, there is also the additional danger of bringing an electric razor or scissors close to the eyes to remove them, which can cause serious accidents.
