Rockfall on Porto de Mós national road "cut the municipality in half" and awaits intervention since January

TVI Notícias9 September 2026 at 14:53

More than seven months after the passage of Storm Kristin, the national road that crosses the National Park of Serras de Aire e Candeeiros remains with two rockfalls pending intervention. The road, which connects different areas of the municipality of Porto de Mós, was described as being "cut in half" due to the damage caused by the storm.

The situation directly affects many residents and commercial establishments in the region, who continue to suffer the consequences of the storm that occurred at the beginning of the year. The rockfall caused the interruption of a road of great importance for circulation in the municipality.

Although more than seven months have passed since the storm, the repair works have not yet begun. Residents and traders await an intervention that should have started in January, a date mentioned as a reference for the planned start of the works.

The National Park of Serras de Aire e Candeeiros, the area through which this national road passes, is a zone of environmental and tourist importance, which makes the rehabilitation of the road a relevant issue for the region.
