"New vision for the territory" with the update of the PDM in Vila Real de Santo António

Jornal do Algarve9 September 2026 at 14:30

The review of the Municipal Master Plan of Vila Real de Santo António will enter public discussion, updating the main planning instrument of the municipality that has been in force since 1992. The current PDM was never revised in 2002 and, although there have been attempts at revision since 2006, these were not completed. The current process was reopened in 2020.

The proposal for the new PDM places housing, economic diversification, tourism, mobility and urban qualification at the center of a new vision for the territory, with the objective of creating conditions to welcome population, new companies and investment in the three parishes of the municipality.

In concrete terms, various interventions are planned: in Vila Nova de Cacela, areas will be created for housing at controlled costs and an area of more than six hectares for economic activities; in Monte Gordo, new road connections and a new GNR station are planned; and in Vila Real de Santo António, an area of 11 hectares will be created with controlled housing, accessibility, green spaces and economic activities. The plan also includes two new tourist areas of about 20 hectares and five zones for economic activities in the northern area of the city.

The public discussion will last 30 working days, allowing the population, companies and institutions to learn about the proposal and contribute. After analyzing the contributions, the final proposal will proceed for approval by the Municipal Assembly and, where applicable, ratification by the Council of Ministers.

"Avante!", celebrating real genocides since 1931

Alberto Gonçalves analyses the apparent contradiction of comedians and artists who refused to participate in a festival with Jerry Seinfeld, criticizing him for alleged controversial positions, but who simultaneously attended editions of the "Avante!" festival, organized by the Portuguese Communist Party, arguing that this event celebrates real genocides since 1931. The commentator highlights what he considers to be selective hypocrisy of these artists in their condemnation of certain figures while participating in an event associated with Stalinist regimes responsible for millions of deaths.
