President of the Portuguese Medical Association warns about impact of INEM strike in September

Diário de Viseu9 September 2026 at 13:30

The president of the Portuguese Medical Association, Carlos Cortes, warned about the impact that the strike by INEM pre-hospital emergency technicians, scheduled for September, could have on the Portuguese population. The Association expressed concern about the risks that this stoppage could pose to emergency medical services.

Carlos Cortes argued that during the strike period, emergency response to the population must be guaranteed, considering this an essential condition for any negotiation process. The president emphasized the importance of ensuring emergency responses to citizens even in the context of labor conflict.

The Portuguese Medical Association thus reinforces its position of defending users of the health system, warning the competent authorities about the need to find solutions that protect patients and ensure access to emergency care during the stoppage.
