The Government approved this Wednesday the extension of support for agricultural diesel until December 31st of this year. The support provides for a ten cent discount per liter on agricultural diesel, which had been in effect until June 30th.
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro highlighted that this is a measure to mitigate the rise in fuel prices. The announcement was made at the ceremonial session after the Council of Ministers, held at the new Polytechnic University of Bragança.
On the same day, the Minister of Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, ruled out fuel price fixing in Parliament, saying this would be a measure "only as a last resort."
Support for other sectors, such as fishermen, firefighters, social solidarity institutions and transport workers, which Montenegro had announced during the censure motion debate, will only be approved at next week's Council of Ministers.
