PP ahead, PSOE in decline and Vox rising after Ceuta crisis

Observador9 September 2026 at 13:32

Three recent polls show a significant shift in the Spanish political landscape, with the Popular Party consolidating its lead and the PSOE registering a decline in voting intentions. This downward trend for the socialists has been observed in recent weeks.

The migratory crisis in Ceuta, which occurred in May 2021 when thousands of migrants crossed the land border between Morocco and the Spanish city, seems to have influenced these political trends. The Vox party, known for its hardline position on immigration, has been rising in the polls.

The Popular Party, although ahead in the polls, is not expected to be able to form a government alone. This situation poses challenges for the possibility of an absolute majority for the populares.

The PSOE, the party of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, thus faces a difficult period, with electoral data indicating a loss of ground against the PP and Vox, the latter benefiting from the context of the Ceuta crisis.
