Paulo Melich Farinha defended that a future ferry connection between Madeira and the mainland should be designed based on cargo transportation needs and the capacity to generate economic activity. The official recalled the experience of previous maritime operations in the Region to support his position on the model that should be adopted for this connection.
During his intervention, which took place on a panel dedicated to the operation and the necessary conditions for a ferry connection as part of the parliamentary sessions, Paulo Melich Farinha questioned some of the assumptions used in the current feasibility study. His analysis was based on lessons learned from previous maritime operations that took place in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
