Analysts point out that Tehran's more aggressive posture is a response to increased American economic pressure. There is also concern that Iran may be losing control over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategic oil routes.
The attacks on the American base in Jordan included maintenance and repair facilities, preparation areas, and locations where F-35, F-16, and other military aircraft were stationed.
In parallel, Houthi attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia's oil sector left 73 injured, and Riyadh responded with bombings in the region.
