The photograph of King Felipe VI alongside Defense Minister Margarita Robles and the military top brass burst into the political debate opened by the events in Ceuta. The image generated different interpretations about its meaning, both in relation to a possible support for Robles as to a message directed at Morocco.
The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, tried to minimize the political readings about the photograph during his public appearance. Sánchez framed the meeting within institutional normality and the constitutional functions of the King as head of State and supreme commander of the Armed Forces.
Sánchez considered it was "a timely photograph", simultaneously recognizing that, due to the circumstances in which it was taken, it could give rise to diverse interpretations. The prime minister thus sought to deactivate the political speculations generated by the image.
