Bairro das Nogueiras: "Punctual" situations of insecurity

Jornal Notícias da Covilhã9 September 2026 at 12:18

The mayor of Covilhã, Hélio Fazendeiro, states that the municipality is attentive to the alleged insecurity situations in the social neighborhood of Nogueiras, in Teixoso, but classifies them as "punctual situations" that have been resolved by the authorities. The mayor guarantees that it is not an extraordinary phenomenon of violence.

At the private meeting of the Covilhã executive on October 4th, councilor Miguel Rebelo from the Independent Movement for People (MIPP) revealed that he had received reports from residents about conflicts at the location, which have led the GNR to intervene frequently, including the deployment of the intervention force to calm tensions in more serious situations.

Hélio Fazendeiro mentions that there is a social action team that monitors the daily life of the neighborhood and that for more than half a year, monthly meetings have been promoted with various entities to seek solutions. The mayor recalls the joint work of the City Council, CPCJ, Parish Council, Social Security, Public Prosecutor's Office, security forces, and the Beira Serra association to increase social integration, quality of life, and the safety of residents.
