A child is recovering after being attacked by an alligator while swimming in a lake at the Weeki Wachee Preserve, in Hernando County, Florida, on Monday (7). According to local authorities, the victim suffered injuries to the arm and leg, but is not in danger of dying.
The animal, which was between 2.7 and 3.7 meters long, attacked the child within the recreation area. After the incident, the victim and other children were stranded on a sandbar and needed to be rescued by the Hernando County Fire Department.
The child was rushed to Bayonet Point Hospital and, according to authorities, is expected to recover. A licensed wildlife hunter was called to help capture the alligator, and traps have been installed in the area, according to the local broadcaster.
