Mud from the Tocantins River and ash from the Amazon transform into art in new mural in Catete

A mural over 11 meters called "Confluence" was inaugurated on the last day 31 at Rua do Catete, 223, in Rio de Janeiro. The work was created by artists from the Fearless Foundation for the Arts, an organization from South Asia, in partnership with the Aliança Chega de Soja.

The painting portrays indigenous, quilombola, and riverside women and has an uncommon detail: the paints were produced with mud from the Tocantins River, ash from the Amazon rainforest, and minerals from India. The work was born from the relationship between these women and the rivers that cross their territories.

The artists were inspired by their passage through communities in the basins of the Tocantins, Tapajós, and Madeira rivers. Before arriving in Rio, the group was in Vila Tauiry, in Pará, where they produced with residents a mural about the Pedral do Lourenção, a rocky formation of the Tocantins River.
