The United States sank a sixth Ecuadorian boat in less than two weeks, as part of operations against drug trafficking off the coast of Ecuador. The vessel was destroyed over suspected involvement in drug trafficking activities.
Since late August, US authorities have already destroyed six vessels linked to suspected drug trafficking in the region. The operations indicate a significant intensification of US efforts to combat drug trafficking in that coastal zone.
Ecuador, due to its geographical location, has become a strategic point for drug trafficking routes from Colombia and Peru, the world's largest cocaine producers.
