At least 250 flights were cancelled in the United Kingdom due to a failure in the air traffic control system. The situation caused significant disruptions to the country's air traffic.

The entity responsible for operating the air traffic control system is NATS, the British air traffic control operator. This company is 49% state-owned, which gives it a strategic role in the United Kingdom's air infrastructure.

NATS provides air traffic control services at 15 airports in the United Kingdom. Among the main airports affected are Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow, all served by the company.
