Paulinho da Costa has lived in the United States since the 1970s and is considered one of the world's most prestigious percussionists. One of the requirements made by his family to accept the tribute is that the school cover the airfare and accommodation costs of the musician, his family, and guests.
In May of this year, Paulinho da Costa received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming the first artist born in Brazil to achieve this honor. The percussionist's international recognition may strengthen his wife's campaign with the school's leadership.
Portela has not yet officially commented on the possibility of having Paulinho da Costa as the 2028 theme. The school is awaiting the definition of the direction of Rio de Janeiro carnival for the coming years before confirming whether it will accept the proposal presented by Arice da Costa.
