The government of President Donald Trump is hiring private companies to locate more than 66 thousand deported migrants who, according to American authorities, owe hundreds of millions of dollars to the United States government in unpaid fines. The total amount collected reaches approximately R$ 2.15 billion.
The fines in question are related to immigration violations and were accumulated over the years by migrants who were deported. The American government is trying to recover these amounts even after these people have left the territory of the United States.
The measure will test how far the Trump government's migratory offensive can extend beyond American borders. Until now, it was unclear whether the government had the capacity or authority to collect debts from people who had already been expelled from the country.
