Santa Catarina Court Orders Parents to Pay Son Expelled from Home for Sexual Orientation R$ 100 Thousand in Compensation

oglobo9 September 2026 at 01:02

The Justice of Santa Catarina ordered the parents of a teenager to pay R$ 100 thousand in moral damages, after the young man was expelled from home for revealing his sexual orientation. The case was judged as affective abandonment and involved threats from the family members against the son.

The process reveals that the parents not only expelled the teenager from home but also exposed his private life on social media. The father posted discriminatory content about the son, which prompted the intervention of the Public Ministry and the Child Protective Council.

The Child Protective Council took the young man in in August 2025 and, subsequently, the Public Ministry obtained an injunction ordering the removal of the discriminatory content posted by the father. A daily fine of R$ 2 thousand was established in case he resumed publishing the content on social media.

While the civil action was pending, a psychological evaluation was conducted on the teenager. The case was reported by Agência Brasil and demonstrates a historic ruling involving sexual orientation and family rights in the state of Santa Catarina.
