The Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) decided on Tuesday night to approve the candidacy registration for Senate of former federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Novo-PR). The vote tally was 4 to 3, allowing him to run for the position even after losing his seat in the Chamber of Deputies.
Dallagnol is known for his work as a prosecutor in Operation Car Wash (Lava-Jato). He had his mandate revoked in 2023, after being accused of having requested exoneration from the Federal Public Ministry in 2021 to avoid punishments resulting from disciplinary proceedings against him.
Before registering his candidacy, Deltan requested an early analysis from Electoral Justice on his eligibility situation for this year's elections. The former deputy's defense argued that, when revoking his mandate in 2023, the Superior Electoral Court did not expressly declare his ineligibility for future elections nor set a period of eight years of suspension of his political rights.
This defense argument was upheld last month by the Electoral Public Ministry, which contributed to TRE-PR's decision to approve Dallagnol's candidacy registration for Senate.
