Botafogo and Vasco are in a competition for the signing of 21-year-old midfielder Matheus Gonçalves, currently at Al-Ahli of the United Arab Emirates and developed by Flamengo. Both teams are seeking the player on loan, each presenting their proposal to try to secure the deal.
Botafogo has the financial advantage by offering a salary in the range of R$ 1 million per month. Vasco, on the other hand, proposed half that value, but tries to compensate for the difference by appealing to the player's emotional side, who is a fan of the club.
Both proposals include a purchase option. Al-Ahli signed Matheus Gonçalves in August 2025 for 8 million euros, equivalent to around R$ 50 million at the time. The midfielder's contract with the Emirati club runs until mid-2027.
