Vasco has Maracanã request denied again for South American match

oglobo8 September 2026 at 22:18

The Fla-Flu consortium, responsible for managing the Maracanã, once again denied Vasco's request to use the stadium. This time, the denial was for the second leg of the Copa Sul-Americana against Colombian Santa Fé, scheduled for September 15.

Vasco has been officially notified of the decision and moved the match to São Januário, their own stadium. The team needed the Maracanã to host the knockout match against Santa Fé.

The club also intends to request the Maracanã for the match against Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil. However, Vasco's board of directors has already anticipated what the response from the Fla-Flu consortium will be to the new request.

This is not the first time Vasco has faced difficulties using the Maracanã. The consortium formed by Flamengo and Fluminense has been frequently accused by the club of prioritizing their own interests in releasing the stadium.
