Real Madrid beat Inter Milan 2-1 at the Bernabéu Stadium on Wednesday, in the first matchday of the Champions League league phase. The match started evenly, but the home side confirmed their favorites status with goals from Mbappé and Valverde, while Brazilian Carlos Augusto scored for the Italians.
The match was marked by the reunion between José Mourinho and Cristian Chivu, who were side by side as opposing coaches for the first time. Both were Champions League champions together in 2010, when the Portuguese was in charge of Inter and the Romanian was a player in the squad.
The first big chances came from the Italians. Thuram received the ball in the area and hit a strong shot, but Courtois made great saves. The goalkeeper also saved long-range shots from Lautaro Martínez and Bastoni, in his 100th Champions League match, once again showing why he is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
