With the censure motion already guaranteed to be defeated, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro affirmed that Luís Neves is an "excellent minister". Montenegro's position came after the vote that sealed the fate of the motion presented against the holder of the Internal Administration portfolio.
Only three parties clearly called for the minister's resignation: Chega, the Liberal Initiative and the Left Block. These parties were the only ones to take an explicit position against Luís Neves's continuity in office.
The remaining parties, including the Socialist Party, adopted a different approach. Instead of focusing directly on the minister, they centered their criticism on André Ventura, the leader of Chega, using the censure motion as a political instrument against the figure of the party president.
