Fuel prices are also a problem for farmers here, especially during harvest time. TVI visited the lezíria of Vila Franca de Xira this Tuesday to learn about the reality of local producers.
A local farmer assures that this year, due to the increase in diesel alone, the tomato campaign is already three hundred thousand euros more expensive than in the previous period.
According to the same producer, this additional cost during harvest time can no longer be reflected in the price of tomatoes, which further worsens the financial situation of farmers.
Small variations in fuel prices can have brutal impacts for farmers during harvest season, significantly affecting the profitability of their activities.
