With the end of summer, one of the most remarkable natural phenomena of autumn arrives in Extremadura: the deer rutting season. This period marks the mating season of these animals, during which males emit their characteristic and loud roars.
Between mid-September and October, male deer compete for the attention of females and seek to assert their dominance over the other males in the group. This behavior can result in physical confrontations between animals.
Weather conditions, namely temperatures and the occurrence of rain, can influence the duration and intensity of this phenomenon. The sound of the roars is particularly audible at dawn and dusk.
Extremadura has several privileged locations to observe this natural spectacle, offering visitors the opportunity to witness firsthand this characteristic behavior of the region's fauna.
