"If government commits that INEM network will not be reduced, but reinforced, technicians cancel strike"

SAPO Notícias8 September 2026 at 20:56

In mid-August, the Union of Pre-Hospital Emergency Technicians called a strike for September 14 and 28. This decision led to an immediate reaction from the minister, who expressed surprise at the strike announcement and recalled that "there are ethical limits" to consider. Since then, the government has been negotiating with the technicians to prevent the strike from taking place.

The pre-hospital emergency technicians expressed themselves "dissatisfied" with the proposal presented by INEM, considering that the measures put forward did not address their concerns. Given this dissatisfaction, the workers' representatives sent a counter-proposal to the health minister, seeking to find a solution that satisfies both parties.

The technicians clarified that they are willing to cancel the strike if the government commits to the fact that the INEM network will not be reduced, but rather reinforced. This point appears to be central to the negotiations, as it represents the main condition for suspending the strike notice. Currently, the parties are awaiting the scheduling of a new meeting to try to reach an agreement.
