Firefighter Employee Accused of Setting Fire

A woman who worked at a Junta de Freguesia in Alvaiázere and who was part of, during the summer, a first response team for firefighting was accused by the Public Prosecutor's Office of setting fire. The employee, whose function was precisely to help fight flames, is now suspected of having caused a fire that threatened villages in the region. The Public Prosecutor's Office presented the accusation against the woman, who will have to answer for the crimes she is suspected of. The fire set by her reached an area that is part of the Natura 2000 Network, a European network of nature protection areas, causing additional concern due to the environmental consequences of the act.
