All the graphics explaining Spain's debacle in the PISA 2025 report

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General8 September 2026 at 21:03

The results of the PISA 2025 report were published this Tuesday worldwide and reveal a strong decline in the performance of Spanish 15-year-old students. In reading competence, Spain lost 23 points, which is equivalent to losing more than one full school year, given that 20 points correspond approximately to one year of schooling.

Regarding mathematics, the decline was 16 points, almost the equivalent of another entire school year. In science, the drop was 8 points. These data represent the worst results that Spain has achieved since the OECD began applying the PISA report in 2000.

PISA evaluates the academic performance of 15-year-old students in more than 90 countries, being considered one of the main international indicators of the quality of education systems. The 2025 report shows a trend of significant deterioration in the performance of Spanish students in all three areas evaluated.
