"It's not illegal, but it's rude": a lawyer let a woman skip the queue at Mercadona and regretted it seconds later

A Spanish lawyer experienced an unexpected situation at a Mercadona supermarket and decided to share it on social media through the law firm Litigios.es, specialized in consumer rights defense. The professional was in the queue to pay for his weekly shopping, with a full trolley, when he noticed that a woman behind him had only two products in her hand. As a courtesy, he decided to let her skip ahead.

Shortly after, a man accompanying the woman appeared with two trolleys full of shopping. The man then began placing the products on the conveyor belt, taking advantage of the spot that had been given only to the woman with two items, which left the lawyer regretting his gesture of courtesy.

Faced with this situation, the lawyer raised the question about the legality of this behavior. The answer is that it is not illegal, being rather a matter of education and civility. In his opinion, whoever knows they have two additional trolleys and accepts skipping ahead in this way is taking advantage of someone else's courtesy.

The law firm Litigios.es advises avoiding confrontations and trying to clarify the misunderstanding calmly, explaining that only the passage of the person with few items had been authorized. If the situation turns into an argument or it is not possible to reach an agreement, the recommendation is to resort to supermarket staff to help resolve the conflict.
