Do you have an old driver's license? The printed date may not indicate when you should renew it

The Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) warns that the date printed on the driver's license may not correspond to the actual validity period, especially on older documents. The revalidation deadlines depend on the date the driver obtained the license, the license category, and the holder's age, with renewal to be requested in the six months prior to the applicable legal deadline.

Drivers who obtained their license before January 1, 2008 deserve special attention, as their documents may display dates prior to the legal changes that introduced mandatory revalidations at specific ages. For Category Group 1 licenses (AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, BE, mopeds, and agricultural tractors) obtained until that date, revalidation is mandatory at ages 50, 60, 65, and 70, becoming every two years from age 70 onwards.

The rules vary according to the date of obtaining the license. For Group 1 licenses obtained between January 2013 and July 2016, the first revalidation is on the date indicated on the document, followed by renewals every 15 years until age 60. For licenses obtained from July 2016 onwards, the general rule is every 15 years until age 60, with mandatory revalidations at 60, 65, and 70 years old, and every two years thereafter. If the license was obtained after age 58, the first revalidation is only required at age 65.

Driving with an expired license constitutes a road traffic offense, punishable by a fine between 120 and 600 euros. If the document has been expired for more than two years, revalidation depends on a practical test; if more than five years have passed, a training course and practical test are required; if expired for more than ten years, revalidation is no longer possible, and a new complete license must be obtained. The IMT provides the "My Driving License" platform to check the correct renewal deadline.

US Government imposes sanctions on entire Iranian commercial aviation sector

The United States on Tuesday added the entire Iranian commercial aviation sector to its blacklist, threatening to sanction any organization that works with Iranian airlines. The major carriers, such as Mahan Air and Iran Air, were already sanctioned, but now 27 more local and regional air transport companies are joining them. The US Treasury, led by Scott Bessent, accuses Tehran of using the aviation sector to transport weapons, personnel and illegal goods, and also suspended the exemptions that allowed non-US companies to operate US-made aircraft in Iran. Two companies from the United Arab Emirates and Turkey were sanctioned for acting as intermediaries for Mahan Air to receive three Boeing 777s in the summer of 2026.
