The municipalities of the Intermunicipal Community of the Leiria Region contest the 60% limit on support for damages caused by bad weather, defending a reinforcement of the Municipal Emergency Fund to 85% or even 100%. This position arises following the significant losses that the municipalities in the region have faced due to adverse weather conditions.
The CIM of the Leiria Region alerts to the growing burden of damages on municipal accounts, considering that the current 60% limit is insufficient to address the needs of the affected municipalities. The intermunicipal community understands that a greater financial effort is needed from the central government to support the municipalities.
The municipalities in the region have been facing emergency situations caused by extreme weather events, which has significantly pressured their budgets. The defense of reinforcing the emergency fund to higher values aims to ensure that municipalities can adequately respond to the reconstruction and recovery of damaged infrastructure.
