The first secretary of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, presented a motion in parliament following the case of the Portuguese-Brazilian twins treated at Santa Maria, arguing that the party did not ask for the resignation of the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, just as it did not ask for the resignation of the ministers of Health, Education, and Labour. Carneiro considered that the request for the MAI's resignation was made by the PSD.
In the motion, José Luís Carneiro questioned the prime minister on how he intends to stop the distrust of citizens in democratic institutions. The socialist leader stressed that the PS does not have a position of denial of the facts, but rather of recognition of the need for clarification and strengthening of institutions.
The parliamentary debate took place after the PSD presented a motion of censure to the government, which was rejected with votes against from the PS, BE, PCP, Chega, and IL. The PS motion was approved with votes in favor of the PS, PSD, BE, PCP, Chega, and IL, while the CDS abstained. The prime minister, Luís Montenegro, was not present at the debate, being represented by the Minister for the Prime Minister's Office and Territorial Cohesion.
