Gonçalo Gomes and Nuno Teixeira, athletes from Vitória Sport Clube, will represent Portugal at the European Volleyball Championship, which started on Wednesday, September 9, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The two players are part of the 22 athletes called up by national coach João José for the competition, having joined the most recent training sessions of the National Team and participated in the qualification phase for the European Championship.
The presence of the two Vitória SC athletes in this competition represents recognition of the work carried out for the club. Portugal is preparing to compete in the fourth consecutive final phase of a European Championship, being placed in Group B, alongside Poland, Bulgaria, Israel, Ukraine and North Macedonia.
Portugal's debut took place on Thursday, September 10, at 2:00 PM, against Poland, the current European champions and world ranking leaders. The following day, Portugal faced host nation Bulgaria, at 5:00 PM.
The group stage ended with matches against Israel (September 13), Ukraine (September 14) and North Macedonia (September 15), all scheduled to start at 2:00 PM.
