Former ministers assess poor results: Crato blames education policy, Costa rejects "simplistic solutions" for PISA decline

Former education ministers are assessing Portugal's poor results in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the international student evaluation programme. Opinions are divided on the causes and solutions for the decline in results.

Luís Marques Crato, former education minister, attributes the responsibility to education policy and advocates for implementing a new teaching model to reverse the situation.

On the other hand, Augusto Santos Silva, who was also education minister, rejects what he calls "simplistic solutions" to explain the decline in PISA results. Santos Silva argues that models don't explain everything and calls for deeper "reflection" on the issue.
