Primeiro-Ministro Luís Montenegro said today that the country cannot be held hostage by a "geringonça" that formed on the left, referring to the alliance between PS, BE, PCP and Livre that made the motion of censure against the Government viable. Montenegro stressed that this alliance represents a setback for Portugal and that the Executive will not yield to political pressures.
PSD reacted to the censure motion approved on Friday, considering that the country is held hostage by a "geringonça" on the left that compromises governmental stability. Montenegro guaranteed that the Government will continue to work to fulfill the government program, despite the political difficulties.
The motion of censure against the Government was approved on Friday with the favorable votes of PS, BE, PCP, Livre and PAN, totaling 137 votes in favor. PSD, CDS-PP, Chega, IL and Aliança voted against the motion, which ended up being rejected by 137 votes against 108.
The Prime Minister stated that he will not resign from his position and that he will continue to govern, considering that the censure motion does not represent a government crisis but rather a political crisis created by the left. Montenegro highlighted that the Executive will maintain its course and its priorities.
