The European Union decided on Tuesday to lift the European preference clause of the 90 billion euro loan granted to Kyiv, thus allowing Ukraine to acquire Patriot air defense systems from third countries.
The decision was announced by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, through a message on social media, confirming the agreement reached between the member states.
With this measure, Ukraine is authorized to buy essential products for Patriot air defense systems, which were previously subject to acquisition restrictions outside the European bloc due to the preference clause.
The lifting of this clause represents a significant change in European military support policy toward Ukraine, facilitating access to crucial defense equipment for the country in the context of the ongoing conflict.
