Minister André Mendonça, from the Supreme Federal Court (STF), determined the removal of Andrei Rodrigues from the position of director-general of the Federal Police. The decision, anticipated by GLOBO columnist Malu Gaspar, meets a request from the Novo party, which had filed two requests against Rodrigues at the court the previous week. The determination also establishes that the Corporation's Internal Affairs investigate the director-general's conduct.
The Novo party requested the preventive detention of the director and his precautionary removal, accompanied by the opening of an inquiry to investigate his role in the so-called Master case. The requests were based on messages from the founder of Master bank, Daniel Vorcaro, which mention Rodrigues in their content.
According to Mendonça, the removal of Andrei Rodrigues is necessary so that the Court members and the attorney general can act without interference in the investigations related to the case. The decision aims to guarantee the independence and impartiality of the investigations.
