Briton Matthew Brennan claimed victory on stage 16 of the Vuelta, the race that opened the third and final week of competition. The Visma-Lease a Bike team rider achieved the triumph with the help of compatriot Van Aert during the stage.
The stage had no mountain climbs, but was marked by the threat of wind that affected the route through the province of Huelva. The adverse weather conditions had an influence on the race throughout the entire route.
Enric Mas finished the stage wearing the red leader's jersey of the race, thus maintaining his position at the top of the overall standings of the Vuelta. The Spaniard remains the favorite for the final victory of the race.
Brennan thus achieved his fourth stage victory in this edition of the Vuelta, consolidating his performance as one of the strongest riders in the competition.
