AGU to appeal against Mendonça's decision that removed PF's director-general

The Advocacia-Geral da União will appeal today against the single-judge decision by Justice André Mendonça of the Supreme Federal Court, who removed the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues. Government sources confirmed to CBN that the appeal will be filed today, Wednesday.

The AGU will argue that the removal violates the exclusive competence of the president of the Republic. The challenge will cite article 84 of the Constitution, which establishes that the selection, appointment, and dismissal of the head of the Federal Police are the exclusive competence of the head of the Executive branch.

Mendonça's decision also removed the intelligence director of the corporation, Leandro Almada da Costa. The measure was taken after it was revealed that the Federal Police produced, in the month of August, six intelligence reports considered irregular and without assumed authorship.

According to the justice, these documents were prepared without observing the internal regulations of the corporation and without identification of those responsible for their preparation.
