Leandro Almada, director of Intelligence at the Federal Police, was removed from his position by Minister André Mendonça. The removal decision was made by the minister of the Supreme Federal Court.
Almada had a prominent role in investigations into the assassination of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, killed in Rio de Janeiro in 2018. The case was marked by years of investigations until the arrest warrants were executed in 2023.
In addition to the Marielle case, Almada was also involved in controversies during the 2022 elections. He opposed actions by the Federal Police in Bahia during that period, related to road blockades.
