Work visas for Portuguese in the United Kingdom fell from 972 in 2022 to 478 in 2025

Work visas granted to Portuguese citizens in the United Kingdom decreased significantly, falling from 972 in 2022 to 478 in 2025, representing a sharp drop in the number of authorisations.

More than three thousand Portuguese citizens obtained work visas in the United Kingdom during the period between 2021 and 2025, revealing a considerable migratory flow of Portuguese professionals to that European country.

Data collected by the Migration Observatory indicates that the majority of Portuguese professionals who moved to the United Kingdom to work held positions in finance and IT, reflecting the skills sought in the British labour market.

The reduction in the number of visas between 2022 and 2025 may be associated with several factors, including changes in British immigration policies and economic conditions in the United Kingdom labour market.
