Portugal can create two or three world champions in deep tech by 2030, according to analysis by Porto Business School. The institution identifies favorable conditions for the country to establish itself in the cutting-edge technology sector, but warns of significant obstacles.
The study indicates that Portugal has potential to develop global companies in the deep tech area, which encompasses advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum computing. However, this growth depends on resolving structural problems.
The main obstacle identified is four structural blockages that continue to limit the growth of national tech companies. These obstacles prevent Portugal's potential in the sector from fully materializing.
Porto Business School highlights that, without resolving these limitations, Portugal may not be able to fully take advantage of the opportunity to create global deep tech champions by the end of the decade.
