Rio de Janeiro's Municipal Guard will expand the preventive policing of the Municipal Force to Santa Cruz, in the city's West Zone, next Sunday. The announcement was made by Mayor Eduardo Cavalete and the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
With this expansion, Santa Cruz will become the 14th area of the city to receive the Municipal Force personnel. The city's goal is to reach 22 regions by the end of the year, significantly expanding the coverage of municipal preventive policing.
As already occurs in Bangu and Campo Grande, other areas of the West Zone already served by the Elite Force of the Municipal Guard, patrols in Santa Cruz will be concentrated in high-traffic areas, such as the promenade and surrounding large shopping centers.
Operating hours will be during workers' entry and exit periods, coinciding with peak hours in these areas. Currently, 13 areas already receive policing services since mid-year, and the expansion continues according to the planning of the Urban Security Department.
